Entry Checklist — India

Before You Apply

  • Confirm your eligibility for an Indian e-Tourist Visa. Check the criteria at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html
  • Ensure your UK passport has at least six months validity remaining from your date of arrival in India.
  • Confirm you have a return ticket or onward journey ticket.
  • Ensure you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in India.

Application Process

  • Apply for your e-Tourist Visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Registration
  • Upload a recent passport-sized photograph that meets the specifications outlined on indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Instructions
  • Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page (the page with your photo and details) in PDF format. The maximum file size is 3MB.
  • Provide details of your intended stay in India, including addresses of hotels or places you will be staying.

Fees & Payment

  • Pay the e-Visa fee online using a credit or debit card. The fee varies depending on your nationality and the season. Check the current fee structure at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Misc/Common/FeescheduleEvisa.pdf

After Approval

  • Print a copy of your approved e-Visa (Electronic Travel Authorization - ETA) from indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/StatusEnquiry

At the Border

  • Present your printed e-Visa (ETA) and your UK passport to the immigration officials upon arrival in India.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about the purpose of your visit and your intended stay.
  • The e-Tourist Visa is valid for 60 days from the date of first arrival in India and allows for double entry for tourism purposes.

Important Considerations

  • The e-Tourist Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible.
  • You can avail of a maximum of 3 e-Visas in a calendar year.
