Before You Fly

  • Confirm your airline ticket and travel dates.
  • Check the expiration date of your passport to ensure it is valid for the duration of your stay in Japan.
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and other unforeseen events.optional
  • Inform your bank of your travel dates to avoid any issues with your credit or debit cards.optional

Documents Needed

  • Valid Finnish passport with at least one blank page for entry stamps.
  • Round-trip airline ticket or proof of onward travel from Japan.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Japan (e.g., bank statements, credit card statements).
  • Hotel reservation confirmation or other proof of accommodation in Japan.
  • A pen for filling out the arrival card.optional

At the Border

  • Complete the Disembarkation Card for Foreigners (arrival card), which you will receive on your flight or at the airport. You can find a sample form and instructions on the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) website.
  • Present your passport, completed Disembarkation Card, and return/onward ticket to the immigration officer.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about the purpose of your visit, your intended length of stay, and your accommodation arrangements.
  • Your fingerprints and photograph will be taken at immigration.
  • Ensure the immigration officer stamps your passport with the correct entry date and permitted length of stay (up to 90 days for tourism).
